FAQ

What is different about your facility compared to other Retirement Homes?

Active living, not retirement living: Aster Gardens is Sherwood Park’s newest residence that will transform the way seniors live and experience daily life. Specifically designed not to be a retirement community, but an active living community.

Design & construction: Every part of this building has been thoughtfully designed from the perspective of the resident. From short hallways to creative spaces for recreation, learning and engagement – choice permeates every aspect of the building in an intentional way.

Aster Gardens features innovative construction materials and techniques including concrete construction and healthy interior materials and fixtures.

The site will feature various options from studios to 1 and 2 bedroom units with a full
range of amenities (like a pool, bistro, rooftop patio, theatre, pub, etc.) and care options
for discerning seniors.

Location: located adjacent to OLPH and Park Churches, as well as the AHS community health centre, and Captial care site, as well as a major shopping and the mall within a 3 mins drive, Aster Garden’s is ideally located to allow residents to truly connect with their physical, mental and spiritual needs.

With visionary design and architecture carefully crafted around seniors’ active lifestyles, tastes and needs, the project is in the best location for seniors and their families in Strathcona County.

The project will be a great addition to the fabric of the community by providing a new
vital hub of the community with open spaces for recreation, learning, and gathering.

A strong Local partnership: The project is a collaboration of the founders of Synergy,
Pangman and Optima Living, and creates a deep and meaningful respect for the
wellbeing, and safety of seniors and their families.

Aster Gardens will be independent living, assisted living AND memory health care. We have intentionally thought about every aspect to bring the needs of all into one community. We care about a meaningful quality of life, and we put that into every detail. We are focused on making this a community that allows you to have an active, quality of life.
We hope to create this as a hub for all community members, and not just Aster Gardens.

Why is it called Aster Gardens?

The word Aster derives its meaning from the Greek word meaning Star.
Aster is a North American plant native to this region and its name is synonymous with stability and trust.
Asters are resilient and adaptable, thrive in any soil condition, and reach their peak late in the season.
Let me repeat that – a vibrant beauty that reaches its peak late in the season.
So why the name Aster Gardens, because like the Aster, Aster Gardens will be a community of resilient and adaptable residents living to their full potential on common soil.

What if I don’t have my own Doctor?

We will have nurses, a dr and a pharmacist in our community
Through our unique partnership with the founders of Synergy Wellness centre, we are planning to have a full set of physicians, pharmacists and medical services available on-site for all residents of the building. We also have a spa, massage services as well as esthetics like manicures and pedicures.

Can you guarantee that as my care needs change I can be accommodated at Aster Gardens?

At Aster Gardens, our credo is “let us welcome you home” we will work with every single resident to make sure that they have the right level of care and support that they truly require to be safe at home. Sometimes this means that Aster Gardens may not be the facility that is most appropriate for residents, but given the presence of care staff, and the availability of care packages for purchase we are confident that we will be able to accommodate most requests.

In addition, our two Optima Brain health dementia neighbourhoods will provide world-class dementia care to residents who need that level of support.
